This is my mother. She left me when I was just 14 years old. I saw her a few times from teenage through the typical college years (although I didn’t have typical college years) and then she passed away before I married or had children. She was a wonderful woman that I know I would talk to her often if she were alive, but I really never got the chance.

The most current entries are things I would tell her and only her ... because they aren’t meant to be heard, just vented (if she were alive). The majority of this blog are letters she wrote to me (and a few to my sisters) during the years that we were apart.

After our birthdays

Dear Betsy and Kirstie,
I might as well start this letter over as I fell asleep starting it on Tuesday.  I sure miss you.  I keep looking for your letters.  I hope you are well.  It is so busy here.  Grandpa Deakin went in a nursing home the day after I arrived and he hates it.  I am trying to find him a better place.  Grandma works every day so Saturday and Sunday are hectic.  She goes to many meetings plus only one car works.  Grandpa is still home all day and will retire in April.  He keeps busy.  Sandy loves school.  It is much harder here.  She is taking cooking, too.  We go to church on Sunday.  I haven't driven a car since I left Ridgecrest.  He drives me everywhere.  Sandy is also in the Road Show for church and has practice Wednesday evenings for three hours.  The Bishop's wife picks her up.  She and the Bishop's daughter are the only mormons at school.  It is warm today but supposed to rain.  We have had some rain and snow.  I had a lot of blood work done from Dr. Jones.  My thyroid came back low.  He changed some of my medicine and gave me a shot of cortisone for my legs.  I sitll have the trouble.

Betsy - are you getting your allergy shots and taking your medicine?  I worry about you both. Sandy is making a latch hook rug (really a square piece to hang on the wall) with an oval on it.  She enjoys it.  She roller skates or does home work.  She walks to school or someone takes her in bad weather.  We had to get her a raincoat and some clothers.

I hope you are both happy and well.  I do love you dearly and miss you so much.  How is the cooking going, Betsy?  How is Gretchen?  Does she miss us?  Is anyone walking her?  Mimi is old and sleeps most of the time.  She is going to be trimmed today.  She will really look different then.

We see lots of birds outside - Robins, Red Cardinals, Black birds, and Blue Jays plus squirrels.

I hope you had a nice birthday, Betsy.  Did you have fun at your slumber party?  Wehn is your party, Kirstie?  Today you were born 11 years ago.  This is hard to believe.  You have really grown up, both of you!!  Are you keeping the house clean?

(Later after talking with all of you)

It was good to hear your voices on the phone.  You all sound happy.  It is raining today but 40 degrees which isn't bad.  Grandma is busy with work, she hardly has time for anything.  Plus she goes to see Grandpa Deakin so much.  He is so miserable.  He is so glad I am here. Write to him.  Please write to mommy.  I hope you like your presents.

Remember mommy loves you and misses you.  I have gained weight and eat three meals a day now.  I  have no car to drive which makes it hard here.  Please write mommy.  I love you.

All my love,
Mommy
