This is my mother. She left me when I was just 14 years old. I saw her a few times from teenage through the typical college years (although I didn’t have typical college years) and then she passed away before I married or had children. She was a wonderful woman that I know I would talk to her often if she were alive, but I really never got the chance.

The most current entries are things I would tell her and only her ... because they aren’t meant to be heard, just vented (if she were alive). The majority of this blog are letters she wrote to me (and a few to my sisters) during the years that we were apart.

April 11, 1980

Dear Betsy,

Thank you for the pretty card. I am glad you are happy.   I keep busy most of the time.  I do some meding and sewing also.  Grandma works a lot lately.  Grandpa trouble with his back.  Grandpa Deakin is going to be in a nursing home all the time.  He seems better.  I go to see him a lot.  I need a car as my dad never lets me drive a car.  Grandma takes a car to work also.  I think I will have Dad sell my car.

How is school?  I hope you are doing well.  I think of you so much.  Your dad said you really are a big help around the house.  How are your friends?  Are you going to Rainbow Girls?  I hope so.  I am so glad you enjoy that.

I see Dr. Jones a lot.  My legs are only good if it is cold and damp.

How is Gretchen?  Does anyone walk her?  Are you babysitting a lot?  Sandy could use a job as she has no money to spend.

I have a lot of hand sewing to do and think I'll watch TV while  I do it.  It rains a lot here lately.  Aunt Ida has been really sick with a cold.  I had the intestinal flue with diarrhea.  Today I had a double cheeseburger from McDonald's.  I have gained wieght.  Remember, I love you and miss you.  Write me a letter soon.  Take care.

All my love,
Mom
