This is my mother. She left me when I was just 14 years old. I saw her a few times from teenage through the typical college years (although I didn’t have typical college years) and then she passed away before I married or had children. She was a wonderful woman that I know I would talk to her often if she were alive, but I really never got the chance.

The most current entries are things I would tell her and only her ... because they aren’t meant to be heard, just vented (if she were alive). The majority of this blog are letters she wrote to me (and a few to my sisters) during the years that we were apart.

Dear Betsy,

Glad to get your letter.  Earl and I are fine.  You sound a little down.  I hope things are going better.  Earl and I went together a short time and we are very happy so don't worry about short dating time.

I sent Kirstie a book.  I hope it helps.  How is she?  I have been depressed lately because everything is so overwhelming.  My problems are low BP, blood count which don't help things. I am OK so don't worry.

Gram and Gramp went to Michigan for 4 days and will be home tomorrow.  They needed some time away.

Earl and I go out for most meals.  It's almost as cheap to go out than cook.  I miss cooking though.  I used to cook well for your Dad; Bob was picky.  I don't really know about Earl.  He can't have spices.

Today is Sunday.  Our Sacrament meeting is at 4:20 pm.  It is cook and rainy now.  Good day for my feet and legs.  I don't have any energy.  I have a bad cough.  Earl wants to take me to a restaurant in Findley after church.

Another day is passed and I can barely see the paper.  I think I need bifocals.  I tried to call you last night but you were gone.  So I called Kirstie.  She sounds better.  I hope and she is better.  I sent her a book but she hasn't gotten it yet.

August 7

Earl and I went to Dunkin Donuts today for breakfast.  Here it is lunch time.  I eat a salad for lunch.  My doctor has me on this diet to lose 10#.  Your supposed to eat 1/2 cup cottage cheese, slice of 40 cal wheat bread and 1/2 glass orange juice.  Then for lunch a salad.  For supper you have turkey, chicken or fish.  Two days you get dark meat.  It's a 800 cal and not bad.  Of course, you get hungry.

Well, I will close for now.  I need new glasses.  I can't see good.  Remember I love you very much.  Take care.  Write me.

All my love,
Mom

Dear Betsy,

Glad to get your letter.  So happy you are becoming a missionary.  That is wonderful.  Earl has started reading the BOM you gave him.  Here is Jewel's, Mike's and Justyn's address…

Earl had a birthday June 27.  We have a lot of good times.  We love each other so much.  I have never loved like this way before.  Ear is good to me and good for me.  I have wedding pictures that are good and will get you some soon.  I keep forgetting.  It is hot here.  Bad time of the year for me with the feet and legs.  But we go out a lot.  I weigh 130#.  All the fattening I eat.  Went over to Jewel's last night for Mexican dinner.  Plus cake and ice cream.

I go to church every week and Earl goes also.  He is a Baptist (now).
I saw the GYN doctor and the repair looks good.  I can do anything but I can never lift anything.  Only problem now I started wetting the bed in my sleep after the catheter came out.  So we set the alarm for 1 or 2 am and I get up.  Last 2 nights I woke up with a full bladder before alarm and went to the toilet.  So maybe things are looking up.

Gram and Gramp said to tell you that they love you.  I love you so much, honey.  Thanks for writing.  I appreciate it.  Glad Kirstie is better.  Tell her I love her and will write soon.

All our love,

Mom and Earl
